Can I Use Round Steak for Beef and Broccoli

Jump to Recipe

With just a handful of ingredients, you can have your favorite takeout at home! This Slow Cooker Beef and Broccoli requires just minutes of hands-on time and the end result is tender and flavorful!

Beef and Broccoli is one of my go-to Chinese takeout dishes. I just love the broccoli and beef combo, with the sweet sauce, over rice…so good!

I've toyed with the idea of recreating my favorite dish at home for a while now but most of the recipes out there require ingredients that I just don't keep in my kitchen and, usually, a decent amount of hands-on time.

Slow Cooker Beef and Broccoli

Then I discovered this crockpot beef and broccoli recipe.

It calls for just a handful of ingredients and the only hands-on time is prepping them and about a minute to prepare a cornstarch slurry. Otherwise, this is a simple dump-and-go recipe!

It needs to cook for over 7 hours, which I love. Many crockpot recipes only need 4 hours and that means I either need to remember to start the crockpot in the afternoon or the food is finished hours before I need it. 7 hours is the sweet spot for me. I turn it on, forget it, and then just as I start getting hungry, dinner is ready!

I serve this over a basic white rice but you can use cauliflower rice for a healthier option, or quinoa.

Homemade Beef and Broccoli Ingredients

  • Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Onion
  • Beef broth (low sodium)
  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Cornstarch

How to Make Crockpot Beef and Broccoli

  2. Cook on low for 7 1/4 hours.
  3. Dissolve cornstarch in 2 Tbsp cold water.
  4. Add broccoli and cornstarch water to the crockpot.
  5. Cover and cook for an additional 45 minutes.
  6. Serve over rice.

That's it! That's how easy homemade beef and broccoli can be. No need for a fancy homemade marinade or other ingredients. You can have tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef with just a few ingredients and minutes of hands-on time.

Not a fan of onion or carrots? Just omit them! You can also add in some cauliflower, mushrooms, or other favorite veggies.

Can I Use Frozen Broccoli?

Yes! You can use frozen broccoli in this crockpot beef and broccoli! Just add it after the cornstarch slurry, and allow it to cook for 30 minutes or so. There is no need to thaw it first.

Which Slow Cooker is Best for this Recipe?

My slow cooker is my favorite kitchen gadget.  Well, gadgets.  I have a few of them and each serves a different purpose. My go to is this6 qt Crock-Pot. I love the locking lid and programming options.  I use this for practically everything but have a 8 qt Hamilton Slow Cooker for when we have guests or I'm doubling larger recipes for the freezer.

How to Store Leftovers

You can store leftover beef and broccoli in the fridge for up to 4 days. Since it stores so well, you can even make an entire batch ahead of time for meal prep! Just let it cool (but don't leave it out for more than 2 hours) and transfer to airtight containers. I like to divide it into individual servings for a grab-and-go lunch.

Can I Freeze Beef and Broccoli?

This slow cooker recipe also freezes well! Allow it to cool before freezing. Freeze in individual servings or as a full batch. For best results, thaw it overnight in the fridge before reheating in the crockpot or on the stove. If you need to thaw in the microwave, discard any leftovers.
